Biorisk management advisors as gatekeepers of sustainable biotechnology

Latest methodologies in gene and biotechnology, as we have learnt from the success of both mRNA and viral vaccines to protect against SARS-CoV-2, are important tools to participate in the efforts for sustainable development. However, their application has to be safe in order to be sustainable. Biological risk assessment, biosafety and biosecurity, thus, are important elements for the safe and sustainable development of gene and biotechnology, which in turn are a prerequisite for public trust.

Our poster presented at the IFBA Biosafety Conference, a “vision of tomorrow” (https://internationalbiosafety.org/news-events/ifba-biosafety-conference/) highlights the role and importance of biorisk management advisors as gatekeepers of sustainable biotechnology and the need for interaction of all levels of governance.
