Ursula Jenal
Activity and education
With her general interest in microbial ecology two key events brought Ursula Jenal to biorisk management, her research as Post Doc at Stanford University when investigating the use of genetically modified bacteria for in situ bioremediation of chlorinated solvents and her employment as scientific collaborator with the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment to develop the Swiss biosafety regulations. She founded Jenal & Partners Biosafety Consulting to act as a translation and networking platform for expertise in biosafety and biosecurity for academia, industry and regulators.

Philippe Stroot
Activity and education
After studying biology and completing a PhD in environmental sciences, Philippe Stroot joined the biopharmaceutical industry, first as International Training Manager, then successively as Biosafety Officer, R&D Operation Manager, and finally Global Biosafety Manager. He then joined Jenal and Partners Biosafety Consulting and launching his own biorisk management company, Xibios, located in Belgium (www.xibios.eu). Highly motivated by the development of pragmatic and sustainable solutions, Philippe has been involved in the design and construction of numerous biocontainment facilities (laboratories, greenhouses, production facilities) and the development of biorisk management programs, both in Europe and abroad (mainly in North Africa, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia). Ursula and Philippe, and their respective companies, have been collaborating on a number of projects.
